Review: Holy hell, there’s something wrong in the world when all of the meat and seafood at Dominick’s looks edible! Not only did I buy this lush looking package of ground beef, but I was also able to snag a few pounds of tasty salmon! Despite most beef recipes and common preference calling for a ground beef with 15-20% fat content (health food nuts don’t count in this case), I prefer a leaner meat when purchasing from the local supermarket. Butchers and meat specialty shops can load me up on the fat, but for some reason, a leaner ground beef in a cellophane package just seems right to me (even if it has no actual bearing on the quality of meat I am getting).
This beef loses points for the several bone pieces I found in the meatballs I made, but the overall flavor was above average and even quite tasty. It’s not every day I eat meat, but it’s even less often that I make it to an old-school butcher. I only hope that every time I have to settle for the local Dominick’s beef, it is as flavorful, filling (and lean) as this beef was.
