From the Buy… Uh… American? department

The bookstore where I work has had a couple of children’s books returned by customers simply because the small plastic toys included with them are stamped with the ubiquitous “Made In China.” These toys and the companies that sell them to us have not had anything to do with the recent toy recalls and date-rape drug stories.

One customer who returned the items did so simply as a precaution.

Has anyone else heard of this happening? Does anyone out there have the same concerns?

Here’s a stumper… Does anyone know where to find children’s toys not made in China? (that’s rhetorical, btw)

What does this mean for the burgeoning Chinese economy? Furthermore, what does it mean for the American economy.

We live in an age where boycotting Chinese manufacturing is also a partial act of boycotting American companies.

This little debacle won’t bring outsourced manufacturing back inside our borders, but I hope it brings responsibility inside of all companies’ walls.
