Farewell Punk Planet
It’s with a heavy heart that I am reporting that the Chicago based DIY culture magazine, Punk Planet is stopping the presses.
I know it doesn’t seem like something that Consumatron would be sad about, but DIY culture (whether it was related to the punk culture or not) played a major role in my life. Before I had a videoblog or blog, I wrote and read ‘zines, connecting and commenting through snail mail with other independent creators. Several years ago, Punk Planet reviewed one of my paper zines quite favorably, and for a brief moment, I felt like a rock star of the DIY world (which is completely against the DIY ethic, but anyway…).
Punk Planet was the best of its ilk, mixing celebration of independent artists and creators with thoughtful criticism and journalism. They will be missed.
Whether you’ve been a long time reader of PP, or have never heard of them before, be sure to pick up their final issue, which will be on newsstands very soon.
You’ll be missed, Punk Planet. I may have taken off to explore other reaches of the DIY universe a while ago, but your magazine will always represent the planet I will call home.
