Review: Metropolitan breakfast or countryside wakeup call, coffee is the force that brings it all together. Or at least that’s what I think in the morning before I have my coffee. It’s only after I drink my first cup that the dreamy romanticism leaves me and I remember that most of the coffee I drink on a daily basis comes from poor coffee farmers around the world. So it really does tie us together… just not how I would prefer.
bin Wine Cafe serves LaVazza coffee, which is an Italian coffee company that began in a small grocery store in 1895. It has since grown to be a billion dollar company that buys out coffee distributors in other countries. Despite the specifics I don’t know all too well, LaVazza is one of the few giant coffee corporations that churns out consistently tasty coffee. Italian coffee is strong, but thankfully, LaVazza hasn’t followed the Starbucks model by burning all of their beans to carbon. Even the darker roasts LaVazza offers have a full flavor to them, signifying that someone at LaVazza knows what they are doing.
$2.50 for a bottomless cup of decent coffee at a hip Wicker Park wine cafe isn’t so bad. There are better brands, but it’s too early on this beautiful day to complain too much. I need another refill.
