Review: Wait just a minute. I was brought up believing that buffet food was always the bottom of the culinary barrel. If Khyber Pass’ buffet is the bottom, I can’t friggin’ wait to taste the top!
Anyone who knows me well knows that Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines in the world (or at least in its American incarnation… I haven’t been to India yet). I’m hesitant to say that this is the best Indian food I’ve ever eaten, but it is the best Indian buffet I’ve ever been privy to.
From the biryani to the chickpea/chicken/lamb curries to the vast landscape of naan you are given upon placing your order, everything Khyber Pass has to offer on their self-serve bar will blow you away. I don’t even like cauliflower, but every piece I came upon in my vegetable curry and pakoras disappeared… fast!
Also, it’s worth mentioning that Tandori chicken isn’t my favorite when it comes to eating Indian. In fact, it’s quite far down on the list (lamb vindaloo, please!). Yet and still, Khyber Pass’ Tandori chicken had me stuffing my buffet-bubbled face far after my body screamed, “no more!” Sorry, tummy. I’ll do a few more sit-ups tomorrow, okay?
The curries were finely spiced with just enough cumin and other spices to make even the most hardened midwestern foodie drop to their knees and beg for more. Best of all, Khyber Pass allows carry out for their buffet.
You better believe I thought about going back and getting seconds after I had finished devouring it in my office.
If you should ever find yourself in Oak Park, IL, make it a point to stop in Khyber Pass. And don’t be afraid to go the gluttonous cheapskate buffet route. It’s well worth the shame that you will drown in delicious, delicious food.

This is the place I was going to recommend to you last week. We ordered carryout from there Friday night. You can’t go wrong.
