Review: It must have been a good day at the docks on Feb. 16th. I just hope those docks weren’t on Lake Michigan. Judging by the taste of this fish, I highly doubt they were.

Despite having color added and being loaded with PCBs from the fish farm, the Dominick’s salmon didn’t represent wet kleenex dyed with dirty dish water like most of their seafood usually does (need proof, try buying scallops from Dominick’s some time). Today’s salmon looked healthy, robust and full of flavor.

After trying a new recipe which called for baking the salmon under alternating temperatures, I was amazed at how little fat had drained and bubbled out from the salmon’s meaty flesh. This fish was surprisingly lean and juicy for farmed salmon and while I’d rather partake in fish of the wild variety, I’ll be keeping what was once a wandering eye on the seafood section at Dominick’s. Maybe this wasn’t a fluke and is, instead a new leaf for my local supermarket.

Fourteen bucks risked on farmed salmon? Ack. Seems like you ought to be closer to fresh salmon there than I am waaaaay down ‘heah.
And in an aside, why is there an enormous ad on the right side of this page for a “Golden Crown Truss” and pic of a dongle-free mannequin trussed (snicker) up in it…Product placement seems odd…
