Review: Boy I love cofee. I love coffee so much and imbibe it so often that I could probably dedicate an entire web site to coffee reviews and make a go of it. Just wait. You’ll see. Pretty soon, you’ll all be writing me e-mails begging me to stop writing reviews about coffee, but I’ll be so hopped up on caffeine that I won’t be able to stop.

On to this particular cup of coffee though.

The unique thing about purchasing a cup of Dukin’ Donuts coffee is that it requires a fair amount of faith and trust in your fellow man. Unlike most independent coffee shops, or even the bourgeoning music store, Starbucks, wher you are the master of your own alchemic domain, allowed to mix and stir your preferred balance of cream and sugar into your coffee. Dunkin’ Donuts employees, on the other hand, are extensively trained to take care of this process for you.

Okay, so maybe not extensively.

Maybe not even trained.

The point is that getting your daily cup of joe at your local Dunkin’ Donuts demands faith. Or a certain amount of luck.

For those of you who drink coffee with cream or sugar or both, I know that the levels of either or both are an extremely important part of your day. Fear not my friends! I am convinced that most Dunkin’ Donuts employees are born into a secret society where they are taught the ancient art of coffee additives. I am sure that each time you walk into a Dunkin’ Donuts size you up, taking into consideration your height, weight, level of drowsiness, tolerance for bitter coffee and sweet-toothiness. After gathering this information, a small microchip implanted at birth near the bottom of the skull calculates exactly how much of each additive is required for the optimal drinking experience. At least, that’s what the workers at the 1231 S. Wabash store are capable of. And they remember me too. They always know what I want and how I want it, which is a nice thing to have early in the morning when you are still wiping the sleep from your eyes.

I know many of you will probably hate me for feeding such a large and dirty corporation, but you know what, I’m sorry…most indie coffee houses use over-roasted beans with less caffeine. Dunkin’ Donuts consistently has a nice light roast arabian coffee with a smooth taste and scent. I go to indie coffee houses just as much as the next person, but with a location only a block away from my apartment and employees who care about my addiction, I can’t be forced to go out of my way to get to the indie coffee shop a mile away. Especially when I am working in my apartment.

At least it’s not Starbucks!

I used to work there long ago.

Be glad you drink the coffee, and don’t order donuts much.

It’s VERY unsanitary back there–the immigrants who make the donuts have SERIOUS hygiene problems–some have never seen a toothbrush or a bar of soap.

Coffee is pretty hard to screw up by comparison.
