Review: Whipping cream is something I would ideally like to have on hand at all times in order to aid in the creation of sauces during drunken late-night cooking jags. Cream is one of those things that I always find myself needing when I don’t have it and not using when I have it, though. You’re more likely to find a sour carton of cream gone bad in my fridge than recipe-ready cow juice. For the time being, I suppose it will have to be one of those things I make a special trip in the rain for.

Tonight I decided to make my soggy trip worth it by cooking two dishes with cream… Cream of tomato soup and a tomato sauce.

It wasn’t until I did a bit of Googling that I discovered that Lucerne is the Dominick’s (Safeway) in-house dairy brand. Does anyone know why a grocery store feels the need, in this day and age of at-your-fingertips searching, to create a separate company name for different products?

Anyhoo… I’m not sure what to say about this product. It yields great sauces and soups? It’s creamy? I didn’t actually try adding sugar and whipping it (Though maybe I will, since that would be better than it going bad in my fridge), but I’m sure it would hold up to that test. It’s just too bad that the only local brand of dairy available in the grocery stores around here is run by a complete douchebag.
