Review: I’ve heard that many “organic” foods are owned and sold by the same types of people who sell pesticide-laced produce and go for the cheapest route possible. Seeing as the ‘O Organics’ line of products is the Dominick’s (Safeway) house brand for the health set, I have no reason to doubt my consumer paranoia and think that this is not true. Despite all of that drivel, I will say that the ‘O Organics’ brand of herbs are the freshest I’ve been able to find this side (inside a supermarket) of a farmer’s market.

This sage is everything a tongue and nose team could want. Fresh, pungent, crisp and easy to slice into thin strands that will add more flavor and complexity to a brown butter sauce than you might expect. Yes, the price is a bit high, but I’m a sucker for staying true to a recipe the first time I try it. Later I can improvise. For instance, I might add more of this stuff next time because after it is sauteed and dried in a butter sauce, this sage doesn’t only add flavor, but absorbs it as well. In the end, I had crispy buttery herb crunchies that tasted great on top of my home-made gnocchi.

I have to hit the farmer’s market or start my own window sill garden, because my buds can just imagine how tasty this would all have been with even fresher fresh sage.
